5th November 2005

Bonfire Night and fifty-five people were entertained with a superb meal provided by SRL Volunteers.  The Radley Village Hall provided a comfortable venue with plenty of space to sit and eat comfortably.  A range of hot casseroles and curries were on offer along with a selection of quiches and vegetarian alternatives.  Supporters and friends paid £9.00 a ticket to eat and test their memory powers with a quiz set by Eleanor who put some tricky questions into the arena.

The puddings which followed were again all home made and delicious.  Compliments were paid by the visitors to the standard of the cuisine and the great evening that everyone had enjoyed.

The piece de la resistance was a birthday cake especially baked and iced for the Chairman of Save Radley Lakes, Basil, who had tried to keep his birthday a secret, but the word got out and he was proudly presented with the cake which Dee made for him.  Picture below.

Note the representation of the cooling towers of Didcot Power Station symbolically broken . SRL Power ! says the legend, with beautifully made butterflies, insects, snakes, spiders decorating the round.

The campaign goes from strength to strength.  We have 539 members now and our fund raising event resulted in over £500 being added to the Campaign War Chest.

Thanks to everyone who supported SRL by buying tickets, and the SRL Voluteers for making the evening such a success. Thanks also to the Companies and Organisation who donated raffle prizes. (See list below)

The next event is the Radley Bazaar on the 26th November, followed by a Supper Dance in the Guildhall in Abingdon on the 10th December.
